Niki Calverley, a senior setter for then-No. 22 The University of Texas at Dallas, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division III National Player of the Week. She earned the award after leading the Comets to three important regional wins last week. Calverley began the week by dishing out a career-high 65 assists, while grabbing ten digs, three aces and one kill in Texas-Dallas' five-set win over Austin, a team who was receiving votes in the AVCA Division III Coaches Top 25 Poll. She followed by contributing 40 assists, 12 digs, two kills and one block in the Comets' 3-1 victory over then-No. 18 Southwestern (Texas). Calverley finished the week off by chipping in 38 assists, ten digs and one block in the squad's sweep of Mary Hardin-Baylor. For the week, Calverley averaged 11.92 assists and 2.67 digs per set, while directing the Comets' attack corps to a .260 team hitting percentage. This marks the first time an athlete from Texas-Dallas has earned Sports Imports/AVCA Division III National Player of the Week accolades. The Comets are coached by Marci Sanders.
