Dana Hilzendager, a sophomore outside hitter for then-No. 25 The University of Texas at Dallas, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division III National Player of the Week after leading the Comets to a trio of wins last week. Hilzendager kicked things off by torching Texas-Tyler for 18 kills, while also chipping in nine digs, six blocks and two aces in the sweep. She followed with her first of two consecutive double-doubles, netting 12 kills, 10 digs, three blocks, two aces and two assists in Texas-Dallas's whitewashing of East Texas Baptist. She ended the week with 14 kills, 22 digs, three blocks and an ace, as the Comets blanked Mississippi College, 3-0. For the week, Hilzendager averaged 4.89 kills, 4.56 digs, 1.33 blocks and 6.17 points per set, while hitting .308. This marks just the second time an athlete from Texas-Dallas has earned Sports Imports/AVCA Division III National Player of the Week accolades, the last being Niki Calverley earlier this season (Oct. 12). The Comets are coached by Marci Sanders.
