Brandt Grobeis, a 6-1 junior setter for then-No. 8 Stevens Institute of Technology, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Men's Division III National Player of the Week. He earned the award by helping the Ducks to a 2-1 record on the week, with all three matches having come against teams ranked or receiving votes in the most recent AVCA Men's Division III Coaches Top 15 Poll.  He began action by notching a double-double in Stevens' three set loss to then-No. 10 Vassar, tallying 40 assists, 11 digs, three kills, two blocks and two aces. In the Ducks' next match, a 3-1 win over Endicott, the 2009 AVCA Division III Second Team All-American passed out 57 assists, in addition to contributing six digs, three blocks and three aces. Grobeis finished the week with a 38-assist outing in a sweep over then-No. 13 MIT. He also totaled three blocks, one dig and one ace in the match. For the week, Grobeis averaged 13.50 assists and 1.80 digs per game, while directing Stevens' offense to a .292 team hitting percentage. This is Grobeis' first Sports Imports/AVCA Men's Division III National Player of the Week honor and marks the fifth time a Stevens athlete been lauded, with Andrew Cranford last earning the nod April 6, 2009. The Ducks are coached by Patrick Dorywalski.
