Alberto Bravo, a 6-3 right side hitter for then-No. 2 Springfield College has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Men's Division III National Player of the Week. He earned the award for his stellar efforts in leading the Pride to their sixth Molten Division III Men's Invitational Volleyball Championship title this past weekend, earning tournament MVP honors along the way. The junior began the weekend by drubbing 13 kills to go along with six digs and three service aces in Springfield's sweep of then-No. 15 Carthage in the tournament semifinals. Bravo saved his best for last, notching a double-double of 24 kills and 11 digs to catapult the Pride to a four-set victory over then-No. 3 UC Santa Cruz in the championship final. He also tallied four blocks and an ace in the match. For the week, Bravo averaged 5.29 kills, 2.43 digs and 6.14 points per game. This marks the 17th time a Springfield player has been awarded Sports Imports/AVCA Men's Division III National Player of the Week accolades, with Mark Ribeiro netting the school's last honor March 2, 2009. The Pride is coached by Charlie Sullivan.
