Murphy Troy, a 6-8 senior right side hitter for No.1 University of Southern California, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Men's Division I-II National Player of the Week. Troy led the Trojans to a pair of wins last week over then-No. 7 UC Irvine and then-No. 15 UC San Diego, while not dropping a set in either match. In their first game of the week against UC Irvine, Troy nailed 19 kills and had 11 digs to lead the way. He came out on fire in the second game of the week against UC San Diego getting six kills in the first set, and ended up finishing with a match-high 15. The Missouri native had a .522 hitting percentage and tacked on five more digs in the second match. For the week, Troy averaged 4.86 kills per set, 2.29 digs per set and a .417 hitting percentage. Through the first four weeks of the season, Troy leads the team in kills per set (4.31) and points per set (4.96) while tying for the team-lead in digs per set (2.00). This is the eighth different men's volleyball player from USC to be named an AVCA Player of the week, and it marks the third time for Troy since he first won it the week of February 9, 2009. The Trojans are coached by Bill Ferguson.
