Antwain Aguillard, a 6-6 senior middle blocker for then-No. 5 Long Beach State University, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Men's Division I-II National Player of the Week. Aguillard led the 49ers to a pair of sweeps last week over Pacific and then-No. 2 Stanford. In their first game of the week against Pacific, he had a season-high 12 kills while hitting .611 and adding four blocks. The Nevada native cooled off a bit in the second game against the Cardinal, but was able to strike five kills with a .364 hitting percentage and tack on a match-high six blocks in the upset. For the week, Aguillard averaged a .517 hitting percentage and nearly four blocks per game as Long Beach State is currently riding a four-game winning streak. This is the 21st time a player from Long Beach State has won the AVCA Player of the week award, and it marks the 49ers first honor since March 1 of last year. The 49ers are coached by Andy Read. |
