Tony Ciarelli, a 6-6 senior outside hitter for the University of Southern California, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Men's Division I-II National Player of the Week. Coming off a week they suffered their only loss of the 2011 campaign, Ciarelli led the Trojans to a pair of victories over then-No.5 Stanford and No. 15 Pacific. Against Stanford, Ciarelli posted a match-best 12 kills while hitting .667 with no errors on 18 attempts. He also served five aces, had five blocks and had no reception errors on 15 attempts. Two nights later in the second game of the week, Ciarelli added 12 kills while hitting .357, two aces and no reception errors in 19 attempts in a 3-0 sweep over Pacific. His strong performance this week got him named the MPSF Player of the Week. This is the 10th time in program history a player from USC has won the DI-DII AVCA Player of the Week, and the second for Ciarelli. The first time he won the honor was on January 19, 2010. The Trojans are coached by Bill Ferguson.
