Brad Lawson, a 6-7 junior outside hitter for Stanford University, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Men's Division I-II National Player of the Week. Lawson was key in leading the Cardinal to a pair of top-10 wins over No. 8 UCLA and then-No. 3 UC Santa Barbara. In the first game of the week against UCLA, Lawson nailed 18 kills and tallied six digs in the four-set win over the Bruins. However, the Hawai'i native kicked it into a higher gear in the second match against the Gauchos. Trailing 2-0 in the match, Stanford rattled off three consecutive sets for the win. Lawson had 25 kills, eight digs and finished with a .564 hitting percentage. This week's totals amounted to 43 kills, 14 digs and three aces while accumulating a .480 hitting percentage. This is the ninth time in program history a player from Stanford has won the DI-DII AVCA Player of the Week, and Lawson is certainly no stranger to this honor with this being his third time winning it after taking home the award twice a year ago. Stanford is coached by John Kosty.
