Mike Bunting, a 6-4 junior outside hitter for Loyola University Chicago, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Men's Division I-II National Player of the Week. Bunting led the Ramblers to a win on the road over Cal State Northridge in four sets in the first match of the week, but then took a loss at the hands of UCLA in the second match of the west coast swing. Against Northridge, Bunting recorded his first double-double of the season with a match-high 19 kills and a season-high 11 digs to go along with his .444 hitting percentage. Bunting stepped up his game against No. 8 UCLA, nailing 24 kills in their hard fought five-set loss. His 26.5 points against the Bruins was the second-highest point total of the season. For the week, Bunting averaged 4.77 kills/set and a .420 hitting percentage. This is the 11th time a player from Loyola-Chicago has won the AVCA Player of the Week, and is the second time for Bunting since he first received the honor the week of February 7th earlier this year. The Ramblers are coached by Shane Davis.
