Cory Yoder, a 6-3 senior outside hitter for UC Irvine, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Men's Division I-II National Player of the Week. Yoder led the Anteaters to a pair of wins on the road, with one of them coming against No.5 Long Beach State. In that match against the 49ers, Yoder had a team-high 17 kills without recording an error in 37 attempts (.459 hitting percentage). He added two aces, seven digs and two blocks. The Anteaters went on to defeat Cal State Northridge in their second match of the week while the California native had a stellar game. He recorded 11 kills and a .556 hitting percentage to clinch a home-court MPSF playoff match. For the week, the senior averaged four kills, 1.43 dogs, 0.57 blocks and 0.57 aces per set while hitting at a .491 clip. This marks the 17th time a player from UC Irvine has won the AVCA Player of the Week, but the first for Yoder. This is also the second consecutive week UC Irvine has been awarded the DI-DII AVCA Player of the Week, as Carson Clark took home the honor a week ago. The Anteaters are coached by John Speraw.
