Tony Ciarelli, a 6-6 junior outside hitter for the University of Southern California, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Men's Division I-II National Player of the Week. Ciarelli led the Trojans to a pair of home wins over AVCA top-15 ranked teams. In their first match against No. 8 UCLA, the California native nailed a team-high 16 kills while hitting .433 to sweep the cross-town rival Bruins. In the second match of the week, USC took out the brooms again to defeat then-No.6 UC Santa Barbara due in large part to the play of Ciarelli. He had a team-high 13 kills in 20 attempts for a .550 hitting percentage while also adding eight digs and four blocks to his totals. For the week, he averaged 4.83 kills per set and hit at an average of .480. This marks the 10th time a player from USC has won the AVCA Player of the Week, and already the third for Ciarelli. He also won it the week of January 19th of last year and February 19th of this year. The Trojans are coached by Bill Ferguson.
