E.J. Wells-Spicer, a 5-11 setter for Nazareth College, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Men's Division III National Player of the Week. Wells-Spicer played a key role in Nazareth going 4-1 on the week and 3-1 in the Golden Flyer Tournament. In their first match of the week against D'Youville, Wells-Spicer exploded for 51 assists in the four-set win. He book-ended the five matches with a school record 73 assists in their wild five-set upset over No. 3 UC Santa Cruz. In the other three matches his assist numbers came out to six, 43 and 34. For the week, the New York native averaged a .333 hitting percentage and an astounding 12.18 assists per set. For his outstanding efforts, he was named to the all-tournament team for the Golden Flyer Tournament. This marks the eighth time a men's volleyball player from Nazareth College has been named an AVCA Player of the Week, and Wells-Spicer's second since he won it a year ago. Nazareth is coached by Cal Wickens.
