Matt Yanz, a 6-6 middle blocker for Carthage College, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Men's Division III National Player of the Week. Yanz was instrumental in leading the Red Men to three victories, all coming of the sweep variety. He enjoyed a 15 kill match against Thiel sandwiched between 11 kill efforts against Mount St. Joseph and Fontbonne. However, his most impressive stat this week comes from the hitting percentage category. He averaged .761, led by an .882 percentage against Thiel. For the week, Yanz averaged just over four kills per set and just under six points per set. This marks the sixth time a men's volleyball player from Carthage College has been named an AVCA Player of the Week, and it'sthe Illinois native's first. The last winner of the award was TJ Bellei, who won it the week of April 7, 2007. The Red Men are coached by L.J. Marx.
