AVCA Announces 2007 NCAA Division III Men's Volleyball All-America TeamsSM
LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 9, 2007) - The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) is proud to announce its 4th Annual AVCA Division III Men's All-America TeamsSM.
Juniata College leads the way with four student-athletes on the AVCA Division III First Team All-AmericaSM, tying the record number of First Team representatives, set also by the Eagles in 2005. Carthage College also had four student-athletes honored, placing two players on both the First and Second Team. Springfield College landed three players, one on the First Team and two on the Second Team. D'Youville College, New York University and Stevens Institute of Technology each had two players honored, while Nazareth College, Medaille College and the University of California Santa Cruz each had one honoree.
TJ Bellei of Carthage, Matt Fritz of Juniata and Michael Schulte of Stevens are all making their second consecutive appearance on the AVCA Division III First-Team All-AmericaSM, while Jeremy Barndt and Nate Ocasio of Juniata were on the First Team in 2005. Barndt, Bellei and Macnair Sillick of New York University all garnered All-American honors for the third time.
The selections were made by the AVCA Division III Men's Volleyball All-America Committee: chairperson Charlie Sullivan (Springfield); Tim Byram (Endicott); Keith Koch (Medaille); LJ Marx (Carthage); and Patrick Dorywalski (Stevens).

AVCA Division III All-America First-TeamSM
Jeremy Barndt (Juniata, Sr., MB) - Barndt is ranked third in Division III with a .444 hitting percentage, and leads Juniata with 1.08 blocks per game behind six solo blocks and 79 block assists. He earned the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) Tait Division Player of the Week honors two times this season, March 6 and April 2. Barndt is now a three-time AVCA All-American, having been a First Team selection in 2005 and a Second Team selection in 2006.
T.J. Bellei (Carthage, Jr. MB) - Bellei is ranked second in Division III with a .459 hitting percentage. He also leads Carthage with 2.82 kills per game. Bellei, who was named Sports Imports/AVCA Division III Men's National Player of the WeekSM on April 2, is a three-time AVCA All-American and a First Team member for the second consecutive year.
John Colosi (D'Youville, Sr., RS/Opp) - Colosi leads the Spartans with 501 kills and 31 aces. He was named Sports Imports/AVCA Division III Men's National Player of the WeekSM and NEVCA Conference Player of the Week on March 19. Colosi is a first-time AVCA All-American and North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) Western Division Co-Player of the Year.
Chris Flierl (D'Youville, Sr., DS/Libero) - Flierl is ranked seventh in the nation with 3.75 digs per game, and leads his team with 428 digs. Flierl is a first-time AVCA All-American and a NECVA West First Team selection.
Matt Fritz (Juniata, Jr., OH) - Fritz is ranked second on the Eagles with 252 kills, 3.45 kills per game and 3.93 points per game. He was named Sports Imports/AVCA Division III Men's National Player of the WeekSM on March 26. Fritz is a two-time AVCA First Team All-American.
Nate Ocasio (Juniata, Sr., RS/Opp) - Ocasio leads Juniata with 275 kills, 3.93 kills per game and 4.41 points per game. He scored double-figure kills in 15 of 17 matches and also had four double-doubles during the season in kills and digs. Ocasio is a two-time AVCA First Team All-American, having also earned the honor in 2005.
Michael Schulte (Stevens, Sr., S) - Schulte is second in Division III with 1,237 assists and is third in the nation with 12.37 assists per game. He also leads the Ducks with 46 aces. Schulte, a First Team All-American for the second consecutive year and a NECVA All-Metro Second Team selection, earned the NECVA Conference Player of the Week and NECVA Metro Division Player of the Week on February 5.
Andy Sipe (Springfield, So., MB) - Sipe is second in the nation with 1.65 blocks per game and leads his team with 139 total blocks, while also ranking third on the Pride with 3.31 points per game. He earned EIVA Hay Division Player of the Week honors on February 18. Sipe is a two-time All-American, having earned Second Team honors in 2006.
Matt Ulmer (Carthage, Sr., S) - Ulmer leads the Red Men with 39 aces and is third on the team with 80 total blocks. For the season, he averaged 10.44 assists per game, good for 19th in Division III. Ulmer is a first-time AVCA All-American.
Matt Werle (Juniata, So., S) - Werle is first in Division III with 12.84 assists per game, while also leading his team with 976 assists and 24 aces. He was named the EIVA Tait Division Player of the Week on February 27. Werle is a two-time AVCA All American, having been named to the AVCA Second Team in 2006.

Ryan Baumgartner (Carthage, Sr., DS/Libero) - Baumgartner leads Carthage with 392 digs and 3.81 digs per game, which is good for sixth in the nation. He is a two-time AVCA All-American, receiving Second Team honors for the second consecutive year.
Jake Beiter (Medaille, Sr., OH) - Beiter leads Medaille with 221 kills and 3.68 kills per game, while ranking second with 133 digs and 2.22 digs per game. He was named NECVA Conference Player of the Week and the NECVA Western Division Player of the Week on March 5. Beiter is a two-time Second Team AVCA All-American, having previously earned the honor in 2005.
Tomas Bochicchio (Stevens, So., OH) - Bochicchio leads the Ducks with 380 kills and 4.04 kills per game, while ranking second with 45 aces and 2.12 digs per game. Bochicchio earned the NECVA Metro Division Player of the Week on March 12. He is a first-time AVCA All-American and the NECVA Metro Division Co-Player of the Year.
Ryan Fredrickson (Springfield, So., RS/Opp) - Fredrickson ranks first on the Pride with 255 kills, 3.54 kills per game, 290 points and 4.03 points per game. He is a two-time AVCA All-American, having earned Second Team honors in 2006.
Rob Koehler (Carthage, Jr., MB) - Koehler leads the Red Men with 90 total blocks and 1.12 blocks per game, while also ranking sixth in the nation with a .407 hitting percentage. Koehler is a first-time AVCA All-American.
Tom Maving (Nazareth, Jr., OH) - Maving leads the Golden Flyers with 369 kills and 3.69 kills per game. He earned Sports Imports/AVCA Division III Men's National Player of the WeekSM on February 12 and March 5, NECVA Conference Player of the Week on February 12, and NECVA Western Division Player of the Week on February 5 and 12. Maving is a first-time AVCA All-American.
AJ Nally (Springfield, Fr., OH) - Nally leads Springfield with 195 digs and 2.32 digs per game, while also ranking second with 280.5 points and 3.34 points per game. He earned EIVA Hay Division Player of the Week honors on January 17. Nally is a first-time AVCA All-American.
Bryan Shires (UC Santa Cruz, JR., OH) - Shires, the Banana Slugs team MVP, averaged 3.75 points and 2.83 points per game, while helping lead UC Santa Cruz an 11-7 overall regular season record. Shires is a first-time AVCA All-American.
Macnair Sillick (NYU, Sr., RS/Opp) - Sillick leads the Violets with 402 kills, 40 aces, and 4.52 points per game. He earned Sports Imports/AVCA Division III Men's National Player of the WeekSM on March 12 and EIVA Hay Division Player of the Week honors on January 23. Sillick is a three-time AVCA All-American, having earned Second Team honors for the second consecutive year and First Team honors in 2005.
Jonathan Wintermeyer (NYU, Jr., MB) - Wintermeyer leads NYU with a .349 hitting percentage, while ranking second on the team with 108 total blocks and 1.04 blocks per game. Wintermeyer is a first-time AVCA All-American.
