AVCA Introduces Phenom College Prep Program
LEXINGTON, Ky. - On Monday, August 27 the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) will release the fifth annual Under Armour Watch List and the inaugural AVCA Phenom List to kick-off its fall high school awards season.
The Under Armour Watch List identifies elite high school senior volleyball players who possess the potential to be considered for the Under Armour High School All-America Awards Program. Its new counterpart, the AVCA Phenom List, identifies elite high school underclassmen. Both lists are comprised of high school volleyball players from across the country who have received honors identifying them as top players in their region or the country. In order for a student-athlete to be eligible for inclusion on either of these lists, her high school head coach must be an active AVCA member.
After the initial Under Armour Watch List and AVCA Phenom List are launched on Monday, August 27, the AVCA will begin accepting request forms to have additional student-athletes placed on both lists. In order for the student-athlete to be eligible for placement on either list her high school head coach must be an active AVCA member and she must have received an honor indicating that she is a top player in her region or the country. The AVCA will accept these requests through Monday, October 1.
On Friday, October 5 the AVCA will extend invitations to unsigned seniors on the Under Armour Watch List and all student-athletes on the AVCA Phenom List to attend the first annual AVCA Phenom College Preparatory Program (AVCA Phenom Program). The AVCA Phenom Program is a weekend for student-athletes and their parents to learn, network and socialize. It is an invitation-only event for unsigned Under Armour Watch List and AVCA Phenom athletes. The event is held in conjunction with the AVCA Annual Convention and is designed to prepare and educate participants and their parents about playing volleyball at the collegiate level. From December 13-16 in Louisville, Kentucky, participating student-athletes and their parents will attend educational sessions, the Under Armour All-America High School Volleyball Match, NCAA volleyball matches, interact with AVCA Collegiate All-Americans, undergo! Volleyball Performance Index testing and participate in the NCSA/AVCA Talent Showcase during which athletes will demonstrate their skills in front of 100+ college coaches in attendance. Participation in the event is $150 and registrations will be accepted on a first come, first served basis until registration closes on November 7 or when the maximum capacity of participants is reached.
