Rachel Davis, a sophomore setter for then-No. 10 Purdue University, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week. Davis played an intricate role in getting the Boilermakers to defeat Iowa and then-No. 2 Nebraska to move up to eighth in this week's AVCA Coaches Top-25 Poll, their highest ranking since 1983. In their first match against the Hawkeyes, Davis racked up 51 assists and asserted herself on defense collecting 21 digs in the five-set win. In the sweep over Nebraska in the following match, the Michigan native tallied 42 assists to help her team hit an astounding .410. With the win, Purdue extended their winning streak to nine. This honor marks the third time an athlete from the program has received the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week award, with the most recent coming just a couple of weeks ago when Ariel Turner took home the honor. The Boilermakers are coached by Dave Shondell.
