Janisa Johnson, a junior outside hitter for Long Beach State University, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week.  Johnson helped lead Long Beach State to three wins this past week, extending their 15-match winning streak as they head into NCAA Tournament play. Johnson, playing out of the back row against LMU, had six kills on 12 attempts and made eight digs. The next night, playing against tournament-bound Central Michigan University, Johnson moved back to playing all rotations and led the 49ers with 14 kills on 26 attempts with no errors, hitting .538 with eight digs and five blocks. Johnson rounded out the weekend with a double-double against New Mexico, recording 13 kills and 16 digs against the Lobos. She averaged nearly three kills and three digs a set over the three matches. This honor marks the 8th time that an athlete from Long Beach State University has received the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week award, with the most recent coming in the week of October 19, 2010 when Ashley Lee received the honor. The 49ers are coached by Brian Gimmillaro.
