Jessica Alvarez, a junior outside hitter for Southern Vermont College, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division III National Player of the Week after they went a perfect 3-0 last week without dropping a set. After recording eight and 15 kills against Becker College and Cobleskill, respectively, she played her best match of the week in the Saturday night contest against Newbury. She nailed 13 kills in 18 attempts (.611 hitting percentage) and also had 10 digs for a double-double. That last win marked their 20th of the season (20-2) to turn in the school's first ever 20-win season by a female athletics team. For the week, she averaged 2.56 digs, 4.0 kills per set, hit .459 and also had nine aces to boot. The California native leads the New England Collegiate Conference with a .432 hitting percentage as an outside. This is the first time an athlete from Southern Vermont has earned the Sports Imports/AVCA Division III National Player of the Week award. The Mountaineers are coached by Joshua Stokes.
