Shannon Thompson, a junior middle hitter for No. 17 UMass-Boston, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division III National Player of the Week after they went a perfect 4-0 last week, racking up double-digit kills in each match. Arguably her best match of the week came in their first against UMass Dartmouth when she hit .655 nailing 20 kills. After defeating Western New England, Thompson recorded a double-double accumulating 10 kills and 12 digs against Williams (MA). In their final match of the week against MIT, she had 16 kills hitting .414 in five sets. This is the first time an athlete from UMass Boston has earned the Sports Imports/AVCA Division III National Player of the Week award. The Beacons are coached by Terry Condon.
