1. General AVCA information update
Well we do have great news! We not only reached our goal of $2500 for the Coaches 4 Coaches Scholarship, but we're at about $4500 right now so we're making a strong push to reach $5000. Yes that means Kathy will rappel down the tallest building in Lexington, and we'll try to have as many photos and videos to document it. But let's see if we can get to $5,000! To donate, just go to our product store and you'll see the C4C donation options on the right-hand side of the page.
AVCA Convention registration is open! Over 2,000 coaches will be in Seattle from December 18-22 for the largest gathering of volleyball coaches in the world. You can register for the convention, purchase match tickets and book your hotel room from our website. These five days include over 70 educational sessions, with topics ranging from attack mechanics and defensive systems to sports psychology and recruiting strategies. This year's sessions feature world-renowned coaches and players like Terry Pettit, John Dunning, Kevin Hambly, Courtney Thompson, Terry Liskevych, Russ Rose, and many more! Plus, you'll want to reserve hotel space in the best location and register at the early bird rate, so the sooner it's taken care of the better.

We're still accepting nominations for the Under Armour High School All-America Watch List. So if you have a senior commit you'd like on the list, please encourage the player's high school coach to become a member if they aren't already, and have them fill out the form so she can be put on the watch list.
As poll voters you all understand the importance of updating results in our system. It is the responsibility of each school to have it updated preferably by the end of each match or by Sunday afternoon at the latest. It takes very little time at all, and directions on how to do so are in the preseason packet that was sent out last month. If you need it re-sent, send me an email, CC your SID and I'll shoot it your way.
Kathy DeBoer: We have a lot of numbers on kids who would like to play collegiate volleyball and elite Division I athletes, and we want to expand its reach. We'd like to come to Cedar Rapids at the Elite 8 for about 15 minutes before or after practice to do VPI testing. It would be voluntarily, but it would not be cost feasible to do so if only one or two teams are willing to participate. We're not looking for a commitment at the moment, but we'd like to put it on the table.
1. AVCA Top 25 Poll Voting (David Portney)
a. Reminder to vote - David how is our voter count so far?
b. Issues or questions on process or teams?
2. Sports Club legislation - tabled until after Jan. Conv. voting
a. Communicating with other sport committees - talk to VB Comm. About talking to other committees.
b. DII Interp - same as DI...don't know if there is an official interp coming out - do we think there needs to be one?
Kathleen: Goes across all three divisions and didn't feel a DII interp was necessary.
Jim: Get an official statement saying DII interp is same as DI.
3. Summer workout legislation - tabled until after Jan. Conv. voting
a. Football only for 2014 - other fall sports for 2015? (Kathleen)
Kathleen: In limbo right now.
-Curious to see what certifications will be required for strength and conditioning coaches.
4. Combined championship idea (Sarah, Ben, Chuck, Kristy)
a. Being discussed at the Championships Committee level - as long as National VB Comm. is supportive, those discussions will occur
b. AVCA and the DI reps are supportive although they only would want the final due to scheduling issues with the convention and how important it is to the AVCA
c. Looking very promising that this will be happening at some point (higher ups in Championships are very in favor) although currently they are looking at a once every four years type of rotation
Kathleen: Don't have time frame yet, but it will be a done deal at some point as championships works on that.
Jim: The NCAA is currently distributing a survey about all things Division II. Encourage everyone to fill it out as it should take about 10-15 minutes.
5. Convention - inviting NCAA people to visit with the HCC and with the General DII meeting on NCAA issues like Coaching club and Summer Workout legislation
- Shortened DII general meeting this year of an hour and a half.
6. VPI Testing - let your conf. teams know that the AVCA would like to do VPI testing at the DII Finals in Iowa and will be asking those teams when they are determined in December. If any of your conf. teams want more info on the VPI testing (what it is, how it is used, why we are doing it, etc), have them contact you to get it through me.
- Start taking straw polls on if you're team would be interested if they made it to the Elite 8.
7. Video exchange (Chris Catanach) - requiring all Regional winners to provide video to the other 7 participants in the National Finals
a. Easy to do if Game Tape Exchange
b. What to do if teams' don't use GTX or other video exchange systems
For 2013, all eight teams should be able to receive tape on the other teams whether it's through GTX or another housing site.
C. Kathleen Brasfield
There was a question about shortened prep time for schools starting late. As I get information I'll update everyone on that conversation.
IV. Other/New Items
V. Roll Call - double check to see if anyone joined late who missed the initial role call
VI. Next Meeting Phone call: Wednesday, October 16th, 2013 12:00pm CST
