Ben Patch, a 6-8 freshman outside hitter for No. 1 BYU, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Men's Division I-II National Player of the Week.  Patch helped lead the Cougars to victories over two MPSF foes on the road including then-No. 1 UC Irvine and UC San Diego.  The freshman had the match of his life on Friday against the Anteaters after trailing 0-2 on the road.  He finished the match with an MPSF season-high and BYU record 35 kills on .375 hitting.  Also compiling eight digs and five blocks, he accounted for the Cougars' final six points of the third set after they saw themselves trailing 14-19.  After the grind out five-match win, Patch had another strong match in San Diego against the Tritons.  This time he compiled 11 kills with a .455 hitting percentage to go along with five digs and three blocks.  For the week, the Provo native averaged 5.75 kills, 1.63 digs and six points per set while hitting at a .415 clip.  This is the 22nd time an athlete from BYU has taken home Sports Imports/AVCA Player of the Week honors, and the second straight honor for Patch.  He also becomes the first player to win consecutive Sports Imports/AVCA POW awards.   The Cougars are coached by Chris McGown.
