Division I Head Coaches Committee Meeting Minutes
Wednesday, April 2, 2014
11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. (EST)
Call led by Kirsten Bernthal Booth, Division I Representative, Creighton University
I. NCAA Volleyball Committee Update (Kristin Fasbender)
Kristin reviewed some of the tools and information used by the NCAA Volleyball Committee when selecting teams for the tournament. Among the information considered is feedback from regional advisor committees, wins/losses, common opponents, strength of schedule, and RPI. The committee does have internet access and can use other resources as well including the AVCA poll and Pablo ratings. In addition, the committee has at least three calls during the season to discuss teams and the selection process typically in early October, late October, and early November.
The committee is given as much information as possible when making the selections but is open to expanding the resources available. They are having another call in mid-April to discuss possible changes for next season. Kristin and Jennie Gilbert (NCAA Volleyball Committee Chair) have agreed to give another update during the June HCC call. Jennie's term on the committee expires on September 1 so there will be a new committee chair for next season.
II. Work/Life Balance Sub-Committee Update (Susie Johnson)
Susie reported the Work/Life Balance group is focusing on helping women stay in the coaching profession after having families. They have heard from many young women coaches and players interested in getting into coaching that have concerns about keeping a work/life balance. The sub-committee will be having calls to discuss how they can support women and offer guidance to those interested in coaching while still having a family. Anyone interested in joining the sub-committee should contact Susie Johnson (email@example.com) or Colleen Munson (firstname.lastname@example.org).
III. AVCA Update (Jason Jones)
Jason reminded the committee that pre-registration for the AVCA Spring Conference will be open until Friday, April 11. After that date attendees will need to register onsite in Chicago beginning on May 1st. The spring conference will be held May 1 - 3 in conjunction with the NCAA Men's Volleyball Championships in Chicago.
