I. Roll Call Question: Tell something neat that your institution is doing to celebrate DIII week?
II. AVCA Update (Emily Andrews):
a. The AVCA Spring Conference registration is closes this Friday, April 11th. Spring Conference will be held May 1 - 3 in conjunction with the NCAA Men's Volleyball Championships in Chicago. The Doubletree by Hilton Chicago North Shore Conference Center will serve as the headquarters hotel with a rate of $129/night. b. If you haven't made it over to the AVCA VPI database be sure to check that out. You can login to the data base by going to www.avcavpi.com and use your AVCA member login to access the database. It's searchable by grad year, position, VPI score or any metric that is tested. The VPI is a battery of tests that measures vertical jump, arm swing speed, height of attack, block jump, lateral quickness and acceleration - six physical measurements associated with success in the sport of volleyball. This is single aggregated number can be compared with other players the same age, players at the same position, or players currently on college teams. We just held our third Combine in Houston at the JVA World Challenge. The database also provides a 50-70 second video clip of each athlete in their preferred position. Has anyone had a chance to look at this data?
c. The nomination period for the 2014 AVCA Hall of Fame class is now open. Nominees can be a coach/educator, administrator or an organization. The AVCA wants to recognize and honor the best in our sport so coaches are encouraged to submit a nomination for anyone they feel is deserving. The deadline for nominations is Friday, May 9. d. Nominations for the Grant Burger Media Award are now being accepted. This award recognizes media members who have been involved in the advancement of volleyball through consistent media coverage. The deadline for nominations is 5 p.m. ET on Monday, April 28. For more information or to submit a nomination please click here.
e. Speaker Application to Present deadline for the 2014 AVCA Convention is April 18th. If you would like to speak this year or know of someone you want to nominate, please fill out the application attached the minutes.
III. Sand Volleyball - Kathy DeBoer, AVCA Executive Director
a. The AVCA is mailing out a white paper on sand volleyball to all DIII coaches and your administrators this week.
This white paper will identify the issues in DIII for Sand Volleyball. NCAA is recommending sand volleyball to be a championship sport in DIII to allow schools who would like to add a sand team. Sand volleyball is an emerging sport in DI an DII and an unregulated sport in DIII.
