I. Roll Call Question: Have you had any discussion with your school about the white paper from the AVCA? If not, do you plan to?
II. AVCA Update (Emily Andrews):
a. Check out the AVCA VPI database! You can login to the data base by going to www.avcavpi.com and use your AVCA member login to access the database. It's now searchable by name, grad year, position, VPI score or any metric that is tested. The VPI is a battery of tests that measures vertical jump, arm swing speed, height of attack, block jump, lateral quickness and acceleration - six physical measurements associated with success in the sport of volleyball. This is single aggregated number can be compared with other players the same age, players at the same position, or players currently on college teams. We will be having out last College Prep Combine for the spring on May 30th in Grand Rapids. The database also provides a 50-70 second video clip of each athlete in their preferred position. Has anyone had a chance to look at this data?
b. Team Academic Award - Nominations for the 2014 Team Academic Award will be begin on Monday, June 2 and last through the entire month of June. In order for a team to be eligible for the award, the team must have maintained an average team GPA of 3.30 on a 4.00 scale, a 4.10 on a 5.00 scale, or an 82 on a 100 point scale for the entire 2013-2014 school year. This average must include all athletes that participated in any dates of varsity competition during the regular season. Please look for an announcement email and nomination link in the coming week. Any questions you may have should be directed to Brad Wilson at firstname.lastname@example.org.
III. D-III Coaches Highlight - Dorothy Webb - Team Defense (Coaching VB 2.0) - Dorothy Webb
a. Dorothy's article in Coaching Volleyball 2.0 was questioning the basic premise of how defensive structures are based solely off of statistics. Does that make sense? What aren't you taking into account when you have this approach?
b. She will be writing another article in Coaching Volleyball 2.0.
IV. D-III White Paper (Sand Volleyball) - Any Feedback from AD's or Presidents?
a. Mika Robinson (Berry College) - Coaches in her conference agreed that DIII should adopt it so we don't operate out of NCAA rules. It's going to be discussed in AD meeting in a couple weeks to see if their school will add it.
V. New/Old Business
