AVCA Announces 2004 NCAA Division III Men's Volleyball All-America Teams

COLORARO SPRINGS, Colo. - The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announces its first-ever AVCA All-America awards for Division III Men's Volleyball.

The AVCA has sponsored a men's collegiate postseason awards program since 1991. However, Division III men's programs competed for the same spots on the AVCA All-America teams with NCAA Division I and II teams. A Division III student-athlete has never been honored on the AVCA Men's All-America Teams in the 13 years since the program was initiated.

Springfield and Juniata each placed three on the AVCA All-America First-Team. Ricky Albano, Brandon Mueller and Eduardo Stawinski represent Springfield. Juniata's Brian Dinning, Ricky Ziegler and Kenny Eiser, who also earned the AVCA Division III Men's National Player of the Year, were first team selections. New York University's Evan Finch and Chris Schmidt were also members of the first team. Juniata placed a total of five athletes on the AVCA All-American Teams and Springfield landed four.

The selections were made by the AVCA Men's Volleyball All-America Committee: chairperson Charlie Sullivan (Springfield); Jason Axford (Eastern Mennonite); Tim Byram (Endicott); Jay Hosack (UC Santa Cruz) and Jonathan Penn (Vassar).
