Roll Call: Absent: Colonial Athletic, Missouri Valley, Patriot League, Southeastern and Southwestern Athletic Conferences.
The meeting was called to order at 11:30 a.m. by Chair Beth Launiere.
1. Preliminary Votes on Legislative Proposals
The members of the committee presented their conference votes on three legislative proposals. The vote totals follow:
a. 2006-41 (limits text messaging): The preliminary vote was 4 conferences in favor, 21 conferences opposed, 2 abstained and 5 did not vote. Therefore the AVCA is not in favor of this proposal and no further vote will be taken.
b. 2006-43 (permits a computer recruiting presentation during in-home visits): The preliminary vote was 26 conferences in favor, 1 conference opposed and 5 did not vote. Therefore the AVCA is in favor of this proposal and no further vote will be taken.
c. 2006-82 (no class time can be missed during nonchampionship segment): The preliminary vote was 10 conferences in favor, 16 conferences were opposed, 1 conference abstained and 5 did not vote. Since the vote on this issue was so close there will be a final vote taken on the December call. It was noted as a point of information that the AEC Cabinet had recently voted to oppose this measure.

2. DI Meetings at Convention
Beth opened the floor to discussion on what topics the committee would like to discuss during the Convention meetings. The committee agreed on the following items:
a. Early offer issues
b. Pre-season start date
c. National poll (representation and other issues)
d. TV dues
f. Talent for volleyball on television (Kathy asked that anyone who knows of someone good at doing the color commentary for matches to please send their name to the AVCA office. The office is collecting names and tapes to share with CSTV and other television outlets.)
g. Volleyball as a Tier I Sport
3. DI AVCA membership
Beth shared with the committee a list of all Division I coaches that are not currently AVCA members. The committee was asked to locate coaches within their conference and follow up with them. Currently 87% of all Division I schools are members.
4. AVCA Business
Todd discussed the need for coaches to have their membership active and current if they want to participate in the various upcoming awards program. He also noted that the early bird deadline for the AVCA Annual Convention was Friday, Nov. 3. Currently 743 members are registered for the convention.
5. Other Business
It was reported that unofficially USA National Team tryouts are being scheduled for December in Omaha and February in Colorado Springs. USA Volleyball will be making an official announcement soon. Institutions will be able to pay for one of the two tryouts for their athletes.
Beth thanked everyone for their attendance and participation during the call. The call concluded at 12:12 p.m.
