DIII No. 3 NYU Sweeps New Haven On the Road
New Haven, Conn. - The New York University men's volleyball swept EIVA Hay Division opponent University of New Haven for the second time this season, improving its conference record to 6-1 on Thursday, March 13, in West Haven, CT.
The Violets (15-6, 6-1 EIVA Hay), currently ranked #3 in the CBS College Sports Network/AVCA Division III Men's Top 15 Coaches Poll, started off the match sluggish, falling behind 7-3. The team rallied, however, to take game #1 30-28.
Games two and three proved much easier, with NYU winning them by scores of 30-21 and 30-23.
Leading the way on offense for the Violets were senior tri-captain Jon Wintermeyer and junior David Coll. Both put down 12 kills. Wintermeyer added a team-best eight blocks, while Coll recorded two digs and a block.
Junior setter Ilan Goldstein ran a strong offense, putting up 36 assists. He added a team-high six digs along with six blocks and two kills.
Senior tri-captain David Tener recorded six digs and became only the second person in NYU rally-scoring history to record 600 digs in his career. Tener is currently second on the list with 605 digs, 57 behind Thom Stone.
The Violets return to action this Sunday when they return home to take on Division III rival Juniata College. First serve is set for 2:00 pm.
