Melissa Griffin, a senior middle blocker for then-No. 19 Ohio University, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week. She earned the award for her strong play in leading the Bobcats to sweeps over Buffalo and Akron, which extended Ohio's regular season Mid-American Conference win streak to 52 matches. In Ohio's win over Buffalo, Griffin notched 14 kills in 25 attempts with only two errors for a .480 hitting percentage. She added three digs and one block assist in the win. She followed that up with 18 kills in 22 attempts and two errors for a sterling .727 hitting percentage, while also notching three solo blocks in the win over the Zips. For the week, Griffin hit an exceptional .597, and averaged 5.33 kills and 5.91 points per game. Griffin is the first player from Ohio University to earn the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week honor. The Bobcats are coached by Geoff Carlston.
