Missie Stidham, a 5-9 outside hitter for Sacramento State, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week for her MVP performance last weekend in leading the Hornets to the San Francisco Invitational Title. The senior transfer from Saint Mary's (Ca.), who has posted a double-double in every match but one this year, led the team to three wins at the event, including a 3-1 upset of then-No. 14 Cal Poly. In Sacramento State's opening match of the tournament, Stidham had 17 kills in 37 attempts and zero errors for a .459 hitting percentage, while also adding 14 digs and two total blocks in the sweep of San Francisco. In Sacramento State's upset of Cal Poly, she had an incredible 29 kills and 27 digs, while adding one ace and two total blocks. She closed out the weekend with an 18-kill, 11-dig, two-ace performance in a sweep of Xavier. For the weekend, Stidham averaged 6.40 kills, 5.20 digs and 6.90 points per game. Stidham is the first player from Sacramento State to be named Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week. The Hornets are coached by Debby Colberg, who is retiring at the end of this season and will be inducted into the AVCA Hall of Fame at the AVCA Convention in December.
