Elyse Cusack, a freshman libero for #7 Florida, has been named Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week based on her stellar defensive performances in Florida's wins last week over two conference rivals, nationally ranked #11 LSU, and Arkansas. In the Gators' win over LSU, Cusack collected 46 digs in the four-game match, demolishing the previous school record of 34, which was set in 1987. Her 46 digs also tied for sixth-most in NCAA history for a four-game match. Cusack followed that up with a 25-dig performance to lead all players in Florida's four-game win over Arkansas. For the week, Cusack averaged 8.88 digs per game in helping Florida march closer to its goal of a sixteenth consecutive SEC title. Cusack is the seventh player from Florida to earn the Sports Imports/AVCA National Player of the Week honor. The Gators are coached by Mary Wise. |
