Shonda Cole, a senior outside hitter for the University of South Carolina, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week. Cole led the Gamecocks to a 2-0 record last week, highlighted by an upset of then-sixth-ranked Florida. Cole averaged an astounding 7.89 kills per game over the two-match span, and hit for a .382 percentage. She also played a little defense, averaging 3.89 digs per game. In the upset of Florida, Cole set a school-record for a four-game match with 35 kills, hitting at a lofty .462 clip. She also added 17 digs against the Gators. Against Auburn two days earlier, she dropped 36 kills, and added a career-high 18 digs. Cole raised her season average to 6.2 kills per game and she's now hitting .365. Cole is the first Gamecock to receive the Sports Imports/AVCA National Player of the Week. The South Carolina Head Coach is Nancy Somera. |
