Kristina Baum, a 6-2 junior right side/opposite hitter for eighth-ranked University of Arizona (14-2, 6-1 Pac-10), has been chosen the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week after leading the Wildcats to victories over then-third-ranked Stanford and then-13th-ranked California. Baum hit .383 for the week with averages of 4.12 points, 3.50 kills, 2.62 digs and 0.62 blocks per game. She provided career-highs of 17 kills and 13 digs in a five-game win against Stanford, in addition to three blocks and a .382 attack percentage. Baum charted a .385 hitting percentage in a sweep of California with 11 kills, eight digs and two blocks. She averages 3.03 points, 2.48 kills, 0.67 blocks and 1.88 digs per game this season while hitting .341. She is the third Wildcat to earn the national honor, and the first since Jennifer Abernathy was selected on Nov. 3, 2002. The Arizona head coach is Dave Rubio.
