Christina Houghtelling, a 6-2 junior middle blocker for the University of Nebraska (2-0, 0-0 Big 12), has been chosen the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week after leading the top-rated Huskers to the AVCA/NACWAA College Volleyball Showcase Championship by sweeping fourth-ranked Hawai'i and third-ranked Stanford. Houghtelling collected 14 kills, five block assists, seven digs, one assist and hit .440 against Hawai'i in the semifinals. She notched 15 kills, five block assists, seven digs, one assist and hit .375 versus Stanford in the championship match. The five block assists tied a career-high for Houghtelling. She averaged 5.57 points, 4.83 kills, 1.67 blocks, 2.33 digs, 0.33 assists and hit .404 on the weekend and was named the AVCA/NACWAA College Volleyball Showcase Most Valuable Player. A Nebraska player has earned the award eight times; including two consecutive times dating back to 2004. The Nebraska head coach is John Cook.
