Laura Jones, a 6-3 junior outside hitter for 16th-ranked Texas A&M University (10-5, 6-3 Big 12), has been chosen the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week after pacing the Aggies to victories over Oklahoma and previously undefeated Texas. Jones averaged 6.86 points, 5.86 kills, 1.14 blocks, 4.14 digs and 0.29 aces per game in the two matches, in addition to attacking at a .352 clip. She hit .393 versus Oklahoma on Oct. 13 with 14 kills, nine digs and three blocks in a sweep of the Sooners. Jones tied a school record on Oct. 16 versus Texas with 32 points on 27 kills, two aces, one block solo, four block assists and 20 digs. She hit .333 versus the Longhorns on 63 swings. Jones improved her season averages to 5.39 points, 4.65 kills, 2.71 digs and 0.78 blocks per game, while her week's hitting percentage was .093 better than her season attack percentage. She is the first Texas A&M player to earn the national award. The Texas A&M head coach is Laurie Corbelli.
