She averaged 7.32 points, 6.71 kills, 4.57 digs and 0.71 blocks per game while hitting .398 on 191 swings. James turned in three double-doubles (kills and digs) and averaged 31.3 kills and 21.3 digs per match. She tallied 44 kills and hit .464 with just five errors on 84 swings in an upset of Texas-Arlington with 26 digs and three blocks. The 44 kills represent the sixth-best four-game total in NCAA history, and the most in the all-rally scoring era. James charted 30 kills, 18 digs and five blocks while hitting .407 versus Sam Houston State. She started the week with a 20-kill, 20-dig performance against Nicholls State. She is the first McNeese State player to earn the national award. The McNeese State head coach is Dale Starr.
