Cassie Busse, a 6-2 senior right side/opposite hitter for the 23rd-ranked University of Minnesota (15-7, 8-2 Big Ten), has been chosen the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week. Busse helped the Golden Gophers to a pair of conference victories, solidifying the squad's place in a three-way tie for first in the Big Ten standings. She became only the seventh player in Minnesota history to record 30 or more kills in a match as she pounded a career-high 30 in a 3-1 upset of then-22nd-ranked Michigan State. Busse also recorded 14 digs, three block assists, two aces and hit .591 (30-4-44) in the match. She had what was then a career-high 27 kills, nine digs and two blocks assists in a four-game victory over Michigan to open the weekend. Busse's 57 kills in the two matches vaulted her to eighth on the Minnesota all-time kill list with 1,264. She also reached her 151st career service ace and is currently eighth on the school's career service ace list. Busse averaged 7.12 kills, 2.88 digs, 0.75 blocks and hit .411 (57-11-112) on the weekend. The University of Minnesota head coach is Mike Hebert.
