The first AVCA Hall of Fame class, a total of
23 individuals who had earned either the AVCA Founders Award or AVCA
Excellence in Education Award, was honored at the 2003 AVCA Annual Convention.
Future AVCA Hall of Fame inductees will be nominated for one of four
categories: Coach/Educator; Player; Administrator; or Organization. Each
year, the new honorees are inducted at the Jostens Coaches Honors Luncheon
at the AVCA Annual Convention.
The AVCA Victory
Club Awards for all AVCA member head coaches who have won 100, 200, 300,
400, 500, 600, 700, 800 or 900-plus volleyball matches. The awards are
presented at the Jostens Coaches Honors Luncheon at the AVCA Annual
Convention. The awards are presented to AVCA members for victories at their
current level of coaching.
The
AVCA Team Academic
Award honors volleyball teams at the high school and college level
that are successful in the classroom. Nominees include high school or college
teams that have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.30
(on a 4.00 scale) or 4.10 (on a 5.00 scale) during the full academic year
(both semesters or all quarters), and include all varsity athletes who
competed in volleyball with the institution for any portion of the academic
year.
Grant Burger, former Director of Sports
Information and Associate Director of the AVCA (1988-92), whose hard work,
innovative mind, knowledge and enthusiasm took the areas of media relations
and publications at the AVCA to a higher level and increased awareness
of the sport of volleyball nationwide.
The AVCA Founder's Award, discontinued
in lieu of the establishment of the AVCA Hall of Fame, honored
individuals who have been involved in the advancement of the sport of volleyball,
whether it be in coaching, playing, publicity, administration, management,
etc. The distinguished contribution should spread over a 15-year
involvement in the sport of volleyball.
The AVCA Excellence in Education
Award, discontinued in lieu of the establishment of the AVCA Hall of Fame, honored a current member of the AVCA who has made outstanding on-going
educational contributions to the volleyball community.
