2014 AVCA Division III All-America Teams

 

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) is proud to announce the 34th annual AVCA All-America teams for NCAA Division III women's volleyball. The awards will be presented Nov. 20, 2014, at the NCAA Division III Women's National Championship banquet in Newport News, Va., where the 2014 Division III AVCA Player of the Year will be announced. The NCAA Division III national quarterfinals begin Nov. 21.

The 2014 class is highlighted by five three-time All-American recipients from this year's class: Kelly Foley (St. Thomas), Jenna Grasmeyer (Hope), Audrey Krajec (Millikin), Sydney Miles (Emory) and Kara Seidenstricker (Wittenberg).

The 2014 All-America selections were made by the AVCA Division III All-America Committee: Tim Byram, Endicott, chairperson; Moira Long, Springfield; Chad Braegelmann, Minnesota-Morris; Amber Warners, Calvin; Nicole Wentz, Keystone; Deb Kiick, Millikin; Shelley Bauder, Moravian; Cal Wickens, Nazareth; Michael Houlihan, UMass Boston; Jaime Fisher, Millsaps; Valerie Cowan, Pomona-Pitzer.

Two-time AVCA All-American (first team: 2013)...One of three AVCA All-Americans in program history...Prior to her 2013 honor, Williams' most recent All-Americans were in 2004 with Joyia Chadwick (1st) and Robin Young (2nd).

Stats: 11.04 A/S, 48 service aces, 2.18 D/S

One of 10 AVCA All-Americans from St. Benedict (MN)...Becomes fifth player to earn multiple AVCA All-American awards while at St. Benedict.

 

Kelsey McGayhey, Springfield, RS

Stats: 2.79 K/S, .376 hitting percentage, 0.65 B/S

Becomes sixth different student-athlete to garner AVCA All-American recognition at Springfield...Exactly half of the Pride's All-Americans have come in the last four years: Lauren Torvi (2011), Tessa Smolinski (2012 + 2013) and McGayhey.

Stats: 2.19 K/S, .325 hitting percentage, 0.95 B/S

Becomes 40th player in Washington-St. Louis history to be recognized as an AVCA All-American...The 40 passes Juniata (39) for the most individuals recognized in Division III.

Stats: 10.95 A/S, 2.07 D/S, .267 team hitting percentage

Third player in Clarkson history to be selected AVCA All-American...All three have come since 2011: Sata Artus (2011), Xiao Liang (2013) and Shurie.

 

2014 AVCA Division III Third-Team All-America

 

Becca Borquist, SUNY New Paltz, OH

Stats: 3.76 K/S, 3.21 D/S, 0.38 B/S

First ever AVCA All-American from SUNY New Paltz...The Hawks are the fourth Division III SUNY school to have an All-American, including SUNY Albany who is now Division I.

 

Kate Bowman, Emory, L

Stats: 4.56 D/S, .943 reception percentage

23rd player to be selected an AVCA All-American at Emory...One of three liberos selected in this year's All-American class.

 

Megan Gebhard, MIT, OH

Stats: 4.17 K/S, .289 hitting percentage, 0.41 B/S

The fifth AVCA All-American to come from MIT...Prior to Ada Taylor in 2012, the other All-Americans were honored in 2007 (Amanda Morris), 1984 (Aneila Munro) and 1983 (Lori Cantu).

First ever AVCA All-American for Coe...IIAC All-Conference.

Stats: 1.69 K/PS, .313 hitting percentage, 0.79 B/S

Becomes the 15th different player to take home AVCA All-American honors from Wittenberg...In total, the Tigers have 25 All-American honors from the 15 players.

 

Jenna Lodewyk, Calvin, S

Stats: 11.28 A/S, 44 service aces, 2.28 D/S, .299 team hitting percentage

Along with teammate Laura Danhoff, become 15th and 16th players in Calvin history to garner AVCA All-American accolades.

 

Meg O'Day, Haverford, MB

Stats: 3.79 K/S, .346 hitting percentage, 1.02 B/S

O'Day is the second Haverford student-athlete to garner AVCA All-American awards (Rebecca Salvo: 2007-2009).

 

Colleen Ourada, Augsburg, OH

Stats: 3.58 K/S, 4.23 Pts./S, 4.01 D/S, 0.77 B/S

All three All-Americans have come in the last two years: Emily McCourt, Colleen Ourada and Ashley Peper (2013 + 2014).

Stats: 10.4 A/S, .251 team hitting percentage, 2.2 D/S

Two-time AVCA All-American after making the second team last year...All three Eastern 2014 AVCA All-Americans have earned the honor for the second time.

Stats: 2.95 K/S, .225 hitting percentage, 25 service aces

Ninth CNU player to garner AVCA All-American honors...One of three Captains to earn AVCA All-American accolades in 2014, marking their seventh, eighth and ninth honor.

 

Sam Szarmach, Elmhurst, OH

Stats: 3.49 K/S, 39 service aces, 2.85 D/S, 0.35 B/S

The 15th player from Elmhurst to garner AVCA All-American honors.

 

Sarah Szybist, RIT, OH

Stats: 5.10 K/S, .286 hitting percentage, 52 service aces, 2.10 D/S, 0.47 B/S

She becomes the sixth player in RIT history to become an AVCA All-American...It is the school's first honor since 1999 (Ushi Patel - second team).

Stats: 6.00 D/S, .967 receive percentage

Weber becomes the second Cornell (IA) student-athlete to earn AVCA All-American honors...The other went to Kathleen O'Connor (first team) a year ago.

Stats: 4.22 K/S, .312 hitting percentage, 62 service aces, 2.71 D/S

She becomes the 19th player in program history to garner AVCA All-American accolades...The previous most recent honor came from Crista Jones in 2009 (first team).
