Vivas was the first full-time executive director for the AVCA and served from 1983-2000. During her 17 years, she helped get the AVCA off the ground and increased membership from 200 to 3,200. Vivas played an instrumental role in establishing the AVCA Annual Convention.
Vivas pioneered the role of interactive websites and databases within coaches organizations as she was instrumental in the early segments of the AVCA's current on-line website and database, making the AVCA one of the first coaches organizations with those features. She helped obtain long-lasting sponsorships with Tachikara and Sports Imports, both of which are still sponsors of the AVCA. Vivas contributed to the expansion of the AVCA awards program to include All-Americans, Coach of the Year, Team Academic and Player of the Week honors.
She has been active with USA Volleyball, serving on its board of directors and multiple committees within the organization. Vivas has also played many active roles with the Women's Sports Foundation. She was on the Coaches Advisory Roundtable, the Audit Committee Chair and the treasurer for the Board of Trustees. Vivas received the Women's Sports Foundation's President's Award in 1995.
Vivas is the founder, chief executive officer and president of AthleticLink.com, which the AVCA partners with to power the association's on-line career resources center.
