Assistant Coach of the Year: Laura Kuhn, University of Kansas

 

Omaha, Neb. (December 17, 2015) - The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) is proud to announce that University of Minnesota Head Women's Volleyball Coach Hugh McCutcheon has been selected as the 2015 AVCA Division I Coach of the Year, while University of Kansas Associate Head Coach Laura Kuhn has been selected as the 2015 AVCA DI Assistant Coach of the Year.

Fourth year as the head coach of the Gophers
Took the team to the NCAA Semifinals after last year missing the Tournament all together
It is the program's fourth trip to the NCAA Semifinals since 2003
Dropped just one set in their four NCAA Tournament matches
Won their second Big Ten Conference Championship in program history and first since 2002
Earned a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament, which marks the highest in Gopher history
The first Minnesota Head Coach ever to win the AVCA National Coach of the Year
Outside hitter Daly Santana led the conference averaging 4.41 kills per set
Has a 12-4 record against teams currently ranked in the AVCA Coaches Poll
Named the AVCA North Region Coach of the Year
Four Gophers earned AVCA All-America accolades, including region freshman of the year Samantha Seliger-Swenson.

Laura Kuhn's Fast Facts
Fifth season with the University of Kansas
Helped team to program's first NCAA Semifinals appearance
Helped transition Kelsie Payne from middle blocker to the right-side, resulting in Payne leading the Big 12 in kills per set.
Serves as the Jayhawks recruiting coordinator
Works primarily with the middle blockers
Mentored middle Taylor Soucie, who averages 1.24 blocks and is hitting at a .363 clip
A regular volunteer at the Salvation Army and Boys & Girls Club
