SEATTLE, Wash. (December 19, 2013) - The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) is proud to announce that Point Loma Nazarene University Head Women's Volleyball coach Sarah Gustin has been selected as the 2013 AVCA NCCAA National Coach of the Year, while Campbellsville University Assistant Women's Volleyball Coach Billy Gregory has been named the organization's AVCA NCCAA National Assistant Coach of the Year.

This was a year to remember for the Sea Lions, winning the NCCAA National Championship by going a perfect 6-0 in the tournament, dropping just two sets. They finished the season 30-7, marking the first time since 2001 (35-4) they reached the 30-win plateau. As they head into NCAA competition, Gustin acknowledged how important of a step this season was.

"This was a huge step overall in the program because we are building an NCAA team, one that has pride in the tradition of winning, so to be able to win an NCCAA Championship legitimizes everything we have done throughout the season. It also gets us ready for next year as we transition to the NCAA. We have the confidence to know we can win a championship and prepares our program for the next step."

She mentored 2013 NCCAA Player of the Year Savannah Wedemeyer, who averaged an astounding 11.62 assists per set while also tallying 304 digs (2.45 per set).

Gregory, in his 12th season at Campbellsville, has helped lead the Tigers to a 155-40 record over his tenure. They completed the 2013 campaign with a 29-12 record and third place in the Mid-South Conference, earning a berth in the NCCAA National Tournament. He has 20 years of playing experience and 15 years of collegiate and high school coaching experience.

"Billy is an excellent assistant coach," said head coach Amy Zink. "He works well with the girls and provides emotion, inspiration and knowledge that helps them succeed on and off the court."

The AVCA formally presented their awards at the 2013 Jostens Coaches Honors Luncheon in Seattle, Washington earlier today. The luncheon was held in conjunction with the 2013 AVCA Annual Convention.
