Alec Redlich, a 6-1 junior outside hitter for Lakeland has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Men's Division III National Player of the Week. In just their first season competing at the NCAA Division III level after spending the last 17 years at the club level, the Muskies had a weekend to remember led by Redlich. They knocked off three teams in the top-15 of the AVCA Coaches Poll (No. 15 Thiel, No. 11 Stevenson, No. 1 Juniata), averaging 15.5 points per match including 18 against Juniata (16 kills). Offensively, the junior averaged 3.73 kills per set last week almost registering a double-double against Stevenson when he tallied 14 kills and nine digs. He also shined on the defensive end, never accumulating less than five digs in a match while not recording a single serve receive error in 53 attempts against top-notch competition.
This is the first time in program history a Lakeland student-athlete has garnered Sports Imports/Player of the Week honors. The Muskies are coached by Chris Brandt.
