Amanda Konetchy, a senior setter for No. 1 Concordia University, St. Paul, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division II National Player of the Week. It was another incredible weekend for the senior setter, directing the offense to a .290 team hitting percentage against a team ranked in the AVCA Coaches Poll and one receiving votes. In her first match at No. 15 Wayne State, Konetchy had a match to remember. She recorded an NSIC record 77 assists in the five-set win to go along with her 17 digs and three blocks. Her 77 assists surpassed CU's Maggie McNamara's mark of 75 set in 2006 and 2007 vs. Wayne State. That match was followed up by a 43 assist performance (.313 team hitting percentage) in the sweep over receiving votes Augustana. For the week, the Minnesota native averaged 15 assists, 2.74 digs and 0.62 blocks per set. She now leads the conference with 13.21 assists per set. The is the 15th time a student-athlete from Concordia-St. Paul has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Player of the Week, with the most recent coming from Heather Schiller two weeks ago. The Golden Bears are coached by Brady Starkey.
