Angel Perez, a 6-1 freshman outside hitter for No. 2 Springfield College, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Men's Division III National Player of the Week. The Pride went a perfect 3-0 last week defeating two AVCA Coaches D-III Top-15 schools in No. 5 MIT and No. 3 UC Santa Cruz. Perez was named MVP of the Volleyball Hall of Fame Morgan Classic last weekend, which Springfield won for the first time in the Classic's 25-year history. In their first match against the Engineers, Perez tallied eight kills hitting 582, eight digs and five blocks. After nailing 15 kills against the Slugs, the Puerto Rican native had another 14 with a .591 attack percentage against Division II Lees-McRae to win the Classic. For the week, the freshman had 3.7 kills per set and hit .444. This is the 18th time a Springfield men's volleyball player has been named a Sports Imports/AVCA Player of the Week, with the most recent coming the week of April 19, 2010 when Alberto Bravo garnered the award. Springfield is coached by Charlie Sullivan.
