Ben Ponnet, a 6-4 junior outside hitter for Grand Canyon University, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Men's Division I-II National Player of the Week.  As just a junior, last week Ponnet became the first player in program history to reach 1,000 career kills after recording 23 in their sweep over Lindenwood.  In addition to matching his single-match career high, he hit .326 while tallying eight digs and three blocks.  The MIVA Player of the Week had another 20+ kill match two days later against the same opponent, this time nailing 22 kills on .333 hitting with six digs.  The Belgian native enters Saturday's MIVA quarterfinal at Ohio State with 1,040 career kills.  For the week, he averaged five kills,1.56 digs and 6.25 points per set.  This is the first time an athlete from Grand Canyon has taken home Sports Imports/AVCA Player of the Week honors.  The Antelopes are coached by Jeremy Price.
