Brad Lawson, a 6-7 senior outside hitter for then-No. 5 Stanford University, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Men's Division I-II National Player of the Week. They won a pair of home matches in the final weekend of regular season MPSF play against UC Santa Barbara and then-No. 3 UCLA. Lawson used 16 kills and hit an astounding .714 with five digs to quickly dispatch of the Gauchos. With the win, the match the following day against the Bruins was the one the Cardinal needed to clinch the No. 2 seed in the MPSF Tournament and home court advantage for the first round. They did not disappoint the home crowd as they swept UCLA thanks to a strong effort from Lawson. The Hawai'i native hit .348, smashed 11 kills, added four digs and another three blocks. For the week, he averaged 4.50 kills per set while hitting .523. This is the 12th time a Stanford men's volleyball player has been named a Sports Imports/AVCA Player of the Week, and the fifth time in his illustrious career. He most recently garnered the award the week of February 14th of this year. The Cardinal are coached by John Kosty.
