Connor Mortland, a 6-4 sophomore setter for No. 6 New York University, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Men's Division III National Player of the Week.  Mortland led the Violets to a 3-1 record last week, including a win over No. 14 Elmira College.  Their lone loss came to No. 2 Springfield College on the road in five sets, but the California native arguably played his best match of the week.  He tallied an astounding 52 assists with three kills and another two digs.  After a win over D'Youville, NYU took on ranked Elmira; where Mortland went on to collect 38 assists and another eight digs.  NYU finished the week with a win over Penn State Benherd, to have Mortland finish the week with 136 assists that averaged out to 11.36 per set.  This is the 20th time a NYU men's volleyball player has been named a Sports Imports/AVCA Player of the Week, with the most recent coming earlier this year on January 24th when Luke Hamlet won the award. The Violets are coached by Jose Pina.
