Dalton Ammerman, a 6-4 junior outside hitter for No. 3 Long Beach State University, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Men's Division I-II National Player of the Week. Ammerman led the 49ers to a week that saw them defeat two ranked MPSF teams on the road, including the top-ranked team in the country. In their four-set win over then-No. 14 Cal Baptist, the Colorado native recorded his second career double-double with 11 kills and 12 digs while adding another four blocks. Then Long Beach State traveled to Provo, Utah to take on the No. 1 ranked BYU Cougars. Ammerman picked apart the Cougars with a career-high 21 kills while hitting at an astounding .459 clip. His presence was felt from the very first set, smashing eight kills to help them come back from a 15-10 deficit to win 25-23. For the week, the junior averaged 3.56 kills, 1.78 digs and 4.17 points per set with a .313 attack percentage. His efforts helped propel the 49ers to their current No. 3 ranking after beginning the week at No. 7. This is the 24th time a player from LBSU has received the Sports Imports/Player of the Week award, with the most recent coming from John La Rusch on February 21 of last year. Long Beach State is coached by Alan Knipe.
