Dane Worley, a 6-2 junior outside hitter for No. 5 UCLA, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Men's Division I-II National Player of the Week. Worley helped lead the Bruins to wins over two top-10 nationally ranked teams in the AVCA Coaches Poll on the road: then-No. 3 Long Beach State and then-No. 8 Cal State Northridge. Against the 49ers, Worley recorded a career-high 26 kills and 27 points while hitting .404 in their five-set victory that saw them trail 0-2 in sets. Worley's clutch performance sealed the victory for the Bruins, nailing six kills in the fifth and final set. Two days later they traveled to Northridge to play the Matadors, where Worley added another 12 kills on .409 hitting. He also contributed four aces, three digs and three blocks to their second five-set win as UCLA currently holds a fifth-place ranking in the MPSF. This is the 17th time an athlete from UCLA has taken home Sports Imports/AVCA Player of the Week honors, with the most recent coming from Weston Dunlap after he won it on March 28, 2011. The Bruins are coached by John Speraw.
