Eric Mochalski, a 6-5 senior opposite for then-No. 7 Stanford, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Men's Division I-II National Player of the Week. In his first weekend as the starting opposite for the Cardinal, Mochalski seized the opportunity to lead his team to a pair of MPSF sweeps over UC San Diego and No. 9 UC Irvine. With the senior's strong defensive play tallying five digs and two blocks, the Tritons hit a season-low hitting percentage of .100. He also added six kills and hit .300 in the two sets he played. The following day against the defending champion Anteaters, the California native smashed 12 kills on .526 hitting to accompany his seven digs and three blocks. For the week, he averaged 3.60 kills, 2.40 digs and 1.00 blocks per set and hit .448.
This is the 13th time in program history a Stanford student-athlete has garnered Sports Imports/Player of the Week honors, with the most recent coming from Brad Lawson on April 17, 2012. The Cardinal are coached by John Kosty.
